Nexus Illustrator as an Interactive Key
The Nexus Illustrator also functions as an interactive key and there are various ways to do this. They are as follows.
- View the images and selecting those taxa that you want to retain or delete those taxa that you wish to remove from consideration.
In this mode you use the red and green boxes that are in the taxon column (left column). You have a choice of either selecting taxa that you wish to keep by hitting the green check marks (by default the other taxa will be excluded) or click on the red boxes to delete the taxa that you wish to exclude from consideration. After selections are completed, scroll to the top and select "exclude all but selected taxa" if you were clicking on green boxes, or "exclude selected taxa" if you were clicking on red boxes. This will reduce the size of the data set and you can repeat the process until identification is complete. At any time you can click on a taxon box to get all images of a selected taxon.
- Select or exclude taxa with particular states.
In this case you choose one of the characters and click on it (the character is in bold above the character states). This will illustrate each of the coded states. Click on the green boxes to include taxa with a particular character state, or click on red boxes to exclude taxa with a character state. Scroll to the top and select "exclude all but selected taxa" if you clicked on a green box(es), or "exclude selected taxa" if you clicked on a red box(es). This will reduce the size of the data set and you can repeat the process using other characters until identification is complete.
