Interests
I am Head of the School of Botany & Zoology at the University of
KwaZulu-Natal, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, President of the
International Society of Hymenopterists and a member of the Council
of the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature. My main
interests in Hymenoptera are systematics of the “lower” Aculeata
(particularly Plumariidae, Scolebythidae, Bradynobaenidae and Mutillidae)
and fossil aculeates.

Interests
My dissertation research focuses on the systematics of Evanioidea,
with an emphasis on estimating relationships between ensign wasp genera
(Evaniidae). I am using using molecular (16S, 28S, COI, plus 2 nuclear
protein coding genes) and morphological evidence in my analyses.
I still maintain an interest in braconid systematics, thanks to my
advisor (Jim Whitfield), and I hope to revisit the microgastroid subfamilies
in future projects.

Interests
My research focuses on the systematics, phylogeny and biogeography
of the Chalcidoidea (Hymenoptera). Chalcidoid wasps rank numerically
among the largest groups of insects, with estimates of as many as
100,000 species; however, the fauna is poorly known. Most are specialized
parasites, and the majority of successful biological control projects
have utilized these minute wasps to achieve partial or complete control
of insect pests.

Interests
The thesis I finished in September 2002 concerned the phylogeny and
evolution of gall wasps. In March 2004 I moved from Stockholm, Sweden
to Riverside, CA and Chalcidoidea. This is the group I will be working
with as a postdoc with the Heraty lab. My interest lies mainly with
aspects of morphology, taxonomy and evolution.

Interests
My main research interests are in the taxonomy, systematics, and phylogeny
of the apoid wasps, comprising the Heterogynaidae, Ampulicidae, Sphecidae,
and Crabronidae. My special interest is currently in the enigmatic,
probably basal family Heterogynaidae, which I currently revise taxonomically.
This project also includes a cladistic analysis of basal relationships
in Apoidea within aculeates based on morphological characters and
on the first molecular data available for Heterogynaidae.

Interests
I am working on a revision of the subfamily Cenocoeliinae (Hymenoptera:
Braconidae). The generic limits within this group are poorly defined,
resulting in paraphyletic genera. My current research is focused on
producing a molecular phylogeny to elucidate the generic limits within
the subfamily. I will produce a phylogenetic analysis of the species
within the genus Capitonius using both morphological and molecular
analyses as well.

Interests
For my dissertation I am revising the genus Coccygidium (Braconidae)
of the New World. A phylogenetic hypothesis will be proposed using
morphologic and molecular characters. I am studying the evolution
of the aposematic color patterns of these wasps. I am also studying
the evolutionary history and biogeography of the aculeate hymenopterans,
especially of the Vespidae. In 2005 I am accepting a faculty position
at the Instituto de Ciencias Naturales of the Universidad Nacional
de Colombia.

I am interested in phylogenetic systematics of Hymenoptera, especially
the basal lineages ("Symphyta"). I study DNA sequences as well as
morphology, particularly the male reproductive system. I am also interested

Interests
My main research interests are comparative anatomy, higher-level phylogeny
and evolutionary history of the Hymenoptera. I am also interested
in the systematics and biology of the Orussidae.
